biosyn markets a variety of novel hemocyanin and immunocyanin products. Currently biosyn manufactures hemocyanin and immunocyanin products from:Giant keyhole limpet (Megathra crenulata). The company is also engaged in discovery and development of INNOVATIVE products. Several of these products are in late stage development.
biosyn has a well defined program for development of therapeutic products in the area of BLADDER CANCER, in particular and cancer in general. These biotechnology products, hemocyanins and immunocyanins, obtained from the sera of giant keyhole limpet (meghathura crenulata), a sea snail found in the coast of California, have been shown to be safe and effective in the prevention of bladder carcinoma recurrences after surgical intervention and after failure of established therapies. The lead immunotherapeutic product, IMMUCOTHEL®, has been shown to be as effective as many of the cytostatics and immunotherapeutic (BCG) products currently in use, however, with minimal or no side effects. This product was approved in The Netherlands in 1997 and in Austria and South Korea in 2002 Market application has been submitted in other European countries, including Germany. A phase III clinical study is in progress in Germany and a clinical development plan for North America is being developed. A number of second generation product is under development. biosyn is now developing recombinant technology for the manufacture of hemocyanin and immunocyanin products.
biosyn has maintained a tight organization since its inception. The drugs marketed by biosyn are manufactured by specialized contract manufacturing companies and the distribution managed by sales office in Fellbach. The biosyn product development, manufacturing and quality control laboratory divisions in our Fellbach facility, a 2500 square meter building, develops, manufactures, tests and releases the product for sale after biosyn's pre set high quality standards are met. biosyn manufactures both research grade and cGMP grade, the novel biological products, low endotoxin hemocyanins and immunocyanins.
biosyn established its north American office in Carlsbad, California, USA , in 1995. It has a full fledged hemolymph sera production, a3000 sq ft facility established in 2001-2002, housing the in-house designed aquaria system , Class 10,000 GMP production facility, quality control laboratories and controlled storage area.
biosyn employs 90 dedicated scientist, technicians, marketing, public relations and regulatory personnel. The company has an annual turnover of more than 15 million Euros; 20% of this revenue is through exports. The company has subsidiaries in Switzerland (intersyn AG), Austria and in the USA (biosyn Corporation).
The co-founders of biosyn Dr. Thomas Stiefel and Mr. Ortwin Kottwitz are also the Managing Directors of the company.
Marketing and Sales
The company has a direct sales force of 35 in the German speaking countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, to serve the needs of physicians, hospitals and clinics. The company uses a network of distributors in the remaining European countries (United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Poland) and Egypt.
