Interferon therapy

biosyn’s natural beta interferon (Fiblaferon®) possesses all three characteristic features of the interferons: it inhibits virus replication, reduces the growth and reduplication of human tumor cells, has antiangiogenetic properties and effects the modulation of the immune system. The antitumoral effects of the interferons are a consequence of both their direct antiproliferative action and their ability to modulate the immune system, which involves particularly the mobilisation of the natural killer cells.

The systemic Fiblaferon® therapy has shown its best results in the treatment of virus-associated tumors, such as the nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). On the basis of these results a marketing authorization was granted for the therapy of the non-differentiated NPC.

Intratumoral administration of the substance seems to be reasonable due to the inhibitory effect on angiogenesis and the antiproliferative effect.

Fiblaferon® is preferable because of its wide therapeutic spectrum, less serious adverse effects and a comparable antitumoral efficacy (objective response rate approximately 50 %).
